CAmberwell 2
Situated in the leafy green suburb of Camberwell, this project was a collaboration with Interior Designer Martine Cooper from MCID, where we aimed to build a contemporary classic home that pays homage to its art deco roots.
Our clients hail from large families and prioritised a home designed for entertaining. They envisioned a space that exudes light, brightness, sophistication, and timelessness, while also incorporating a touch of adventure in its design. Balancing a high-end aesthetic with practicality, they sought a home that’s both enjoyable and easy to maintain.
The brief encompassed creating open-plan living areas with seamless indoor-outdoor connections, featuring soaring ceilings on a single level. The goal was to ensure that the original 1930s art deco home blends with the new additions, providing all modern conveniences for comfortable living.
In terms of construction, the original house underwent a transformation, with bedrooms, bathrooms, and the laundry being relocated in the original home. The extension encompasses the new kitchen, butler’s pantry, living and dining areas, along with a spacious outdoor living space overlooking the pool and backyard.
Preserving the original flooring, which was in impeccable condition, we sourced matching hardwood for the new addition. A rich matte stain was applied to unify the flooring throughout the entire home. To establish subtle connections between old and new, a blend of vintage and contemporary lighting fixtures was strategically incorporated throughout the space.
In art deco style, tapware, cabinetry, and door hardware serve as the finishing touches that tie the design together. Polished brass, gunmetal, and chrome finishes were carefully selected to complement each space within the home.
The result is a stunning contemporary residence that seamlessly marries old-world charm with modern amenities, offering a harmonious blend of elegance and functionality for effortless living.
